Murray Darling Basin Plan: Water stripped from irrigation communities

STRIPPING water from irrigation communities has dominated the Murray Darling Basin Plan’s southern water recovery, according to a major water audit.

The MDB Authority’s latest audit shows the Commonwealth and basin governments have taken the easy option of buying 85 percent of the water they have recovered from the southern basin’s 41 irrigation communities.

The audit shows 877.5 gigalitres of the 1033.9GL recovered to the end of October last year came from government buyouts.
